Fran Sonshine

National Chair

Fran Sonshine is a prominent leader in the Toronto Community with a long history of involvement in philanthropy and volunteering.

She has held leadership positions in major organizations in her community with a great deal of experience in fundraising.

Ester Driham

National Executive Director

Ester is an accomplished leader with over 15 years of experience as a professional fundraiser and a proven track record in transformative philanthropy and management. She specializes in leadership development, major gifts, and the planning and implementation of comprehensive capital campaigns within the education and non-profit sectors.

Debbie Estrin

Debbie Estrin

Associate Director, Development & Programs

A seasoned professional, Debbie has devoted her career to the nonprofit sector and dedicated it to enhancing the fabric of our Jewish community in the U.S. and Canada. In Toronto, she began her career at UJA Federation of Greater Toronto and has held positions at the Mount Sinai Hospital Foundation, Koffler Centre of the Arts and Ve’ahavta, where she served as the Campaign Director. At the Jewish Federation of Greater Dallas, Debbie was the director of the community’s Annual Campaign.

Debbie holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Toronto and a Master of Social Work from Wurzweiler School of Social Work (Yeshiva University). She is a Certified Financial Resource Educator (CFRE) and earned a Certificate in Nonprofit and Voluntary Sector Management from Ryerson University.

Debbie lives in the Davisville area of Toronto with her husband, Steven Tissenbaum. Her daughter Serena is a student at Dalhousie University.

Josh Hacker

Josh Hacker

Program & Development, Officer

Josh is an accomplished development professional who specializes in developing long-term relationships with donors and managing campaigns.

With over 10 years of fundraising experience leading major gift and leadership campaigns in non-profit organizations in Toronto, he knows how to work closely with lay leaders and volunteers.

At his current role, Josh is responsible for the CSYV Holocaust education programs including outreach and development.

Josh holds a Master’s Degree in Jewish Communal Leadership and an MBA from Brandeis University.

Josh has a passion for local politics and tries to make a difference through the work that he does every day in society.

He lives with family in Toronto.

Ekaterina Lorye

Ekaterina Lorye

Freelance Writer & Communication Support

Ekaterina holds a Bachelor‘s and a Master’s degree in political science and international relations from the University of Montreal. Soon after graduation, she worked as a researcher at the University of Montreal.

In 2013, she joined the European University in St. Petersburg (EUSP) Development Office where she managed the University’s overseas fundraising programs.

Ekaterina is dedicated to truly democratic values. Her involvement with the EUSP enabled her to contribute to promoting the independent academic knowledge in Russia and building a strong civil society.

Advancing Holocaust education and commemoration allows her to inform Canadians about the dangers of extreme intolerance.
