HOLOCAUST HISTORY MUSEUM

A decade in the making, the Holocaust History Museum combines the best of Yad Vashem’s expertise, resources, and state-of-the-art exhibits to take Holocaust education and remembrance well into the future. Designed by world-renowned architect Moshe Safdie, the Holocaust History Museum is a prism-like triangular structure that penetrates the Mount of Remembrance from one side to the other, with both ends dramatically projecting into the open air. The Holocaust Museum occupies over 4,200 square meters, mainly underground.

WHAT YOU’LL FIND

Galleries portraying the complexity of the Jewish situation during those terrible years branch off the central pathway. Both multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary, these exhibits present the story of the Shoah from a Jewish perspective, emphasizing the experiences of the individual victims through original artifacts, survivor testimonies and personal possessions.

At the end of the Museum’s historical narrative is the Hall of Names - the Jewish People’s memorial to each and every Jew who perished in the Holocaust where they will be commemorated for generations to come. The ceiling of the Hall displays photographs and Pages of Testimony, representing a fraction of the murdered six million men, women, and children from the diverse Jewish world destroyed by the Nazis and their accomplices.

As visitors emerge from the exhibits, they are greeted at the end of the Museum by dramatic views of modern-day Jerusalem.
