HOLOCAUST MEMORIAL SITE OPPORTUNITIES
CSYV is moving forward with the development of the Holocaust Memorial Site to its full maturity.
This final phase of development will include:
Developing an original experiential learning program for Youth Holocaust education
Setting up a fund for the ongoing maintenance of the site
Erecting the two new walls for the site and other plaquing opportunities
The Canadian Society for Yad Vashem is developing a program that utilizes the Holocaust Memorial Site at Earl Bales Park as an educational focal point for middle and high school students. To begin, the program will focus on Jewish students from the Greater Toronto area. Historians and experts from Yad Vashem Jerusalem are serving as advisors and content providers for the program.
As Toronto experiences harsh weather, this support ensures that the site is well maintained including restoration of walls and faded writing, repairing walkways, landscaping projects, and ongoing cleanliness. This ensures that the Site continues to be a fitting tribute to those who are remembered and to serve as an educational resource to the community.
With very limited space currently available for names of victims and survivors, the two new walls will have specific panels allocated for members of the community to add names of either those who perished in the Holocaust and survivors, who have have passed away. This will be the final opportunity to add names to the walls. There will also be a variety of opportunities to dedicate elements of the site such as garden plaques and story plaques.
